Overview
Elsinore is a dark and claustrophobic home for Prince Hamlet in this film-noir inspired production. Arguably the greatest piece of drama in the Western canon, Hamlet explores the depths of human nature, following characters propelled inexorably to tragic ends. When adapting the play at CTP, we like to remember that Hamlet doesn’t have to be a prince. At heart, he is simply a young man who has lost his father, is suspicious of his stepdad, and angry at his mom. When his suspicions prove true he doesn’t know what to do. This insight helps our actors make choices in their portrayals that make it easy for the audience to empathize with Hamlet.
